ISO 9001 is an international standard for quality management systems. It covers how a company organizes its processes, assigns responsibility, keeps records and reviews its own work. The 2015 edition was replaced by ISO 9001:2026, published on 16 September 2026, but publication of the new standard does not invalidate an ISO 9001:2015 certificate, and its expiry date stays the same. Companies get a three-year transition period to move to the new edition.

What it means on a beauty product: "ISO 9001 certified" means an outside auditor checked how the company runs its operations. It does not mean the product was tested. ISO writes the standard but does not issue certificates itself. Independent certification bodies do, and they should be accredited (in Pakistan, by PNAC). Ask who issued the certificate, which edition it covers, and whether it covers the factory that actually makes the product.

Why it matters: a certified manufacturer has to work to a clear, audited system, so every batch is made the same way and any problem can be traced. It's a strong sign a brand takes quality seriously. When we vet brands, we look at this alongside product test reports.
