How we choose what we sell
We carry a small number of brands on purpose. Here’s what a brand goes through before it gets a spot.
Dozens of new skincare and beauty brands launch in Pakistan every year, and plenty of them are good. But when you’re standing there trying to work out what’s safe, what works and what’s worth the money, more options don’t help. They just hand the problem back to you.
So we do that part first. Every brand on BYOUT goes through the same three steps.
-
We listen
Before a brand gets serious consideration, we spend time where people talk honestly about their skin. Reddit threads, skincare forums, WhatsApp groups, our own DMs.
We’re after patterns, not single reviews. Which brands keep getting recommended by people with nothing to gain. Which ones come up next to “it actually worked” and “no reaction.” Which ones leave a trail of complaints that no ad budget can bury.
One review tells you about one person’s skin. A few hundred conversations tell you how something behaves in daily use, in this climate, on skin like yours.
-
We check
Then we look at the things you can’t see from a product page. Where it applies, we go through:
- DRAP certification. Clearance from the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan for cosmetic and skincare products.
- PCSIR testing. Independent testing through the Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research.
- Manufacturing. Who makes it, where, and to what standard.
- Ingredient lists. Complete, in the right order, with no vague catch-alls covering for what’s actually in the bottle.
A word on smaller brands. Not every new label has every certificate in place yet, and we don’t think that alone should rule them out.
We look at the people behind it, the thought that went into the formula, and whether the results hold up batch after batch. That takes judgement rather than a checklist, and we’d rather do the harder thing than lose good brands to paperwork timing.

We test
Then we use it.
Our team uses every shortlisted product for long enough to know how it behaves, not just how it feels on the first morning. We send samples to skincare people in our community and ask for blunt feedback.
For actives, for anything claiming to suit sensitive skin, and for anything close to medical, we ask a dermatologist.
A product only reaches the shelf if it holds up at all three stages.
And if something slips
Curation isn’t a one-off. Formulas get reformulated, quality drifts, and a brand that was careful at launch isn’t always careful at scale.
If a product stops meeting the standard, we take it down. That’s the part nobody sees, and it’s the part that makes the rest of this mean anything.
What it means for you
You won’t find every Pakistani beauty brand on BYOUT, and that’s the point.
What’s here is what we’ve spent real time with, used ourselves, and looked into properly. If it’s on our shelf, it’s because we’d tell a friend to buy it. That’s the bar, and it’s the only one we’re interested in.
Know a brand we should look at?
Tell us. We read every suggestion, and a fair few of the brands we stock now started out as one.
