Winter & smog season: October to February

Lahore winter is a double event: the air dries out and fills with smog. Your skin deals with both at once, which is why “my skin freaks out every November” is one of the most common patterns there is.

What changes:

1. Swap textures up. The gel moisturiser that carried you through summer isn’t enough now. Gel-cream or cream, and if you’re dry, a few drops of squalane on top at night.

2. Cleanse gentler, not harder. Smog makes people want to scrub their face off. Resist. Pollution particles rinse off with a normal gentle cleanse (double cleanse at night if you wear sunscreen + makeup, an oil or balm first, then your regular cleanser). Scrubbing damages the barrier that’s protecting you from that same smog.

3. Antioxidants earn their spot. A vitamin C or niacinamide serum in the morning is your pollution-defence layer, under sunscreen. Winter sun through dry clear air is not weaker where it counts, UVA barely drops. Sunscreen continues.

4. Watch the hot-water habit. Scalding showers strip skin fastest of all. Warm, not hot, at least for your face.

Barrier red alert signs: stinging when applying anything, flaking plus tightness, everything “suddenly irritating.” That’s the smog-season barrier crash. Drop all actives for two weeks, run cleanser + ceramide moisturiser + sunscreen only, reintroduce slowly. Skin repairs fast when you stop interrogating it.
