The open jar with “6M” or “12M” inside is the Period After Opening: how many months the product stays good once you’ve opened it. 12M \= twelve months from the day you first open it, regardless of the expiry date printed on the box.
Why it matters more in Pakistan: heat accelerates everything. A vitamin C serum with a 6M PAO stored in a bathroom that hits 40°C in June will not last six months at full strength. Rules of thumb: store actives somewhere cool and dark, keep lids tight, and if a product has changed colour or smell, its PAO is over no matter what the jar says.
